 CHURCH PLANTING

Millions of People are Spiritually Indifferent to the Gospel

Millions of people are far from God and regions are vastly under-churched in Greater New York.  Research indicates that new churches are the best at reaching new generations and non church-goers.  Although there are existing churches who are effectively reaching out to others, there are not enough of these churches.  The NYCLC seeks to accelerate a movement of church planting by connecting leaders to training and funding opportunities to start new churches.

An Engaged Leader

Jose Humphreys, Metro Hope Church - Harlem

As a member of Avenue of Hope’s church planting team on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Jose learned the importance of narrative in reaching out with the gospel to skeptics and intellectuals. While launching Metro Hope, a new church in East Harlem, Jose was introduced to the Redeemer Church Planting Center and the Church Multiplication Alliance (CMA). Jose learned how to craft the new church’s “gospel DNA” structure to welcome artists, intellectuals and professionals in an organic environment indicative of the East Harlem vibe. “Method questions can be found in a book,” says Jose. “The CMA gave me a language and a strategy on how to BE the church in our community.”

Exponential Impact: Avenue of Hope was planted by Primitive Christian Church in 2005. From Avenue of Hope came Metro Hope Church in 2008. Now there are three churches in different parts of Manhattan, each effectively reaching different communities with the Gospel. That’s the power of multiplication!
